A free initiative that recognizes high school juniors and seniors in the Greater Philadelphia region who have demonstrated a commitment to learning about cross-cultural awareness and global affairs.
This free certificate program is designed to highlight any student who has exemplified cross-cultural awareness and understanding through a combination of globally focused coursework, a world language proficiency, and participation in related extracurricular activities.Â
Students enrolled in the program must meet the following criteria for invitation to the capstone presentation and completion of the program: Â
SOCIAL STUDIES COURSES
The completion of a minimum of three Social Studies courses.
Applicable course examples include World History, Geography, and US Government.
ELECTIVE COURSES
The completion of a minimum of three elective courses.
Globally focused electives are preferred, but not required.
Globally focused course examples could be, World Languages (Spanish, French, Mandarin, etc.), International Cultures, World Literature, etc.
EXTRACURRICULARS
Participation in at least one of World Affairs’ youth programs and at least two additional extracurricular activities you have participated in through your school or local community.

Applicable examples could be student government, culture night, school/organization sponsored international travel, etc.

CAPSTONE PROJECT
The completion of the Global Scholars Certificate program capstone project. The capstone project must focus on a global topic of the student’s choosing. Â
Past Examples Include: Global Impacts of Fast Fashion; K-Pop: A Global Phenomenon; Social Commentary in Foreign Films, etc.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
(Optional) Engagement in community service.
Applicable examples include volunteering at a local food bank, serving as a school ambassador, cleaning up a local park, etc.

PORTFOLIO REVIEW & FINAL ENROLLMENT
Portfolio Review will be conducted January through February 2025.
Students accepted into the capstone presentation will be announced no later than March 12, 2025.

World Affairs offers students two ways to get involved:
High schools can register for High School Membership to access our in-person simulations: Model Senate and Global Economic Forum. They also gain access to our public programs for faculty, students, and parents.
Students can register individually for our Individual Enrollment programs, including Citizen Diplomat Academy, Global Scholars Certificate Program, and Summer Global Leadership Seminar.
