Be immersed in Porto, an enigmatic harbor town known for its storied Ribeira district and bohemian culture. Then cruise aboard a first-class ship through the fabled Douro River Valley, the world’s oldest demarcated winemaking region. Carve a path through sculpted hills and bucolic lands steeped in winemaking traditions. Daily excursions feature wine estates and charming townships, including Vila Real, Lamego and Salamanca, Spain. Susan Boré

Susan Boré

President, World Affairs Council of Hampton Roads

Susan (Seaman) Boré retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 2016 after 27 years of active duty. A native of Columbia, Maryland, she was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1989 after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy. Her final role was Chief of Global Force Sourcing for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, where she led development of the annual plan distributing U.S. conventional forces worldwide. Colonel Seaman commanded two battalions and served in major operations including the Persian Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Much of her career was spent in operational roles supporting ground, air, and logistics units. Her staff assignments included serving as aide-de-camp to the Marine Corps Commandant, a legislative assistant to Senator Barbara Mikulski, and working on the Marine Corps budget at Headquarters. Now based in Norfolk, she is active in community organizations, including the YMCA, Valor Run, and the World Affairs Council. She also enjoys coaching swimming, traveling, and spending time with her family.
