U.S. Ambassador

Ambassador G. Philip Hughes has held senior roles in the White House and the Departments of State, Commerce, and Defense, with deep expertise in Latin American policy and global diplomacy. His distinguished service includes appointments as U.S. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Director for Latin America on the National Security Council, and Deputy Assistant to Vice President George H. W. Bush. He played a key role in diplomatic missions with both Presidents Reagan and Bush across the region. Beyond Latin America, Ambassador Hughes served as Executive Secretary of the National Security Council and held senior positions in export enforcement and politico-military affairs. A scholar and leader, he is currently President of the Council of American Ambassadors and teaches diplomacy in Washington, D.C. He holds degrees from the University of Dayton, the Fletcher School, and Harvard University.
