Few regions reward the curious traveler the way Central Asia does. This 14-day tour travels through Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan along routes that once carried silk, spices, and ideas between China and Europe. In Kyrgyzstan’s Chon-Kemin Valley, a day in a mountain village brings local traditions to life: horse games, felt-making, yurt building, and a performance of the Manas epic. Uzbekistan’s great cities follow, from Tashkent’s Soviet-era metro and medieval scholarship to the tiled domes of Samarkand, the Old Town of Bukhara, and Khiva’s walled inner city. A cross-border day in Tajikistan visits the 5,000-year-old settlement of Sarazm. Optional extensions in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan round out all five Stans, including Almaty’s museums and contemporary art scene, a visit to an Akhal-Teke horse farm, and Ashgabat’s striking white marble capital. Expert-led visits, lectures, and meetings with local specialists provide depth throughout.
