Frank Almaguer

Retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer

Ambassador Frank Almaguer, a retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer, served as U.S. Ambassador to Honduras (1999-2002) and held leadership roles in USAID, including directing missions in Bolivia, Eastern Europe, and Ecuador. After retiring, he led administration at the Organization of American States (OAS) and has since contributed to U.S. foreign affairs, electoral observation, and advisory committees. A longtime advocate for Latin American affairs, Almaguer chaired the Board of Trustees at Zamorano University and founded the Latin America Discussion Group at DACOR. His career has earned him numerous honors, including Presidential Meritorious Awards and USAID’s highest recognition. He has also maintained close ties to Eastern Europe, with frequent visits to the former Czechoslovakia. Born in Cuba and raised in Florida, he is fluent in Spanish and holds degrees from the University of Florida and George Washington University. He and his wife reside in Vienna, VA.
