Sister Cities Youth Exchange event honoring World Affairs Council of Philadelphia’s member high school Science Leadership Academy – Center City and both Copernicus High School #1 (Torun, Poland) and Gymnasium Riedberg (Frankfurt, Germany) was held in Philadelphia’s City Hall on Friday, April 19, 2024. Torun, Poland has been a Sister City with the City of Philadelphia since 1976. Copernicus High School #1 and Science Leadership Academy have participated previously in two student exchanges, with this Sister Cities exchange being the third edition. Frankfurt, Germany has been a Sister City with the City of Philadelphia since 2015. Gymnasium Riedberg and Science Leadership Academy have participated previously in three student exchanges, with this Sister Cities exchange being the fourth edition.
The exchange includes 20 students from Science Leadership Academy – Center City, 10 students from Frankfurt and 10 students from Torun. The Sister Cities program
advisors from Science Leadership Academy include Principal Chris Lehmann, Robert Enzweiler (teacher) and Stephanie Sessa (teacher). The Headmaster of Gymnaisum Reidberg is Dr. Helmut Kunberger and the teacher leader is Mr. Fatih Uzuner. The Principal of Copernicus High School #1 is Mrs. Hanna Wrycza-Wilinska and their Sister Cities teacher leader is Daniel Szczygiel.
Polish American Cultural Center Museum representatives in historic Philadelphia attended the event and extended Polish greetings to the Sister Cities Youth.
