“Consumers and businesses brace for President Trump’s tariff announcement” by Maggie Kent

With just one day remaining before the highly anticipated global tariff announcement by the federal administration, 6ABC Action News reported on the economic outlook and spoke with World Affairs leader, Lauren Swartz, to discuss the potential impact on consumers in Philadelphia and across the nation.

Explained Swartz, leader of the largest and longest-running international nonprofit in the Philadelphia region, “Our country’s economy is based on consumerism. Most of the products that we purchase have international components. If those channels are shut down, those economic impacts will be much more than bananas costing more or French wine costing more at the supermarket.”

Prior to World Affairs, Lauren Swartz served as Philadelphia’s Deputy Commerce Director for International Business & Global Strategy. In her current role, Swartz helps to connect Philadelphia to the world. From powerful speaker events and international exchanges to youth education, to professional development and curated travel programs, World Affairs is where continents, cultures, and ideas connect.
