Our new WWI: The Doughboys Tour celebrates General John Pershing’s American Expeditionary Forces—Marines, Soldiers, and Airmen—who fought on the Western Front and helped achieve victory in World War I.
As you travel through France, you will see the places where some of America’s foremost soldiers and statesmen fought and where their characters were formed. The victors of World War II—George Patton, Douglas MacArthur, Harry Truman, Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., Mark Clark, and George C. Marshall—all experienced battle for the first time in World War I. You will also visit some of the most spectacular battlefields in Europe, where America’s first tank battles and major aerial campaigns took place, and which also saw exciting infantry actions and deeds of bravery. Today, these battlefields remain much as they did a hundred years ago, with trenches, bunkers, gun pits, and shell craters still visible for exploration, and in some cases, debris still littering the battlefields.
We are honored to have Edward G. Lengel join us as our tour leader. Lengel is a professional author, speaker, and battlefield tour guide, who has written extensively on American history. [Bio below.]
