The Civil War: This Hallowed Ground Tour offers a comprehensive look at the major events from the start at First Bull Run/Manassas to the Confederate surrender at Appomattox, exploring why and how the battles were fought, the military strategies, and the battlefields where 750,000 Americans, including volunteers, immigrants, ex-enslaved people, and draftees, lost their lives. The tour delves into the motivations of the soldiers and their families, the early successes of the Confederate armies despite limited resources, the turning point at Gettysburg, and the eventual Federal victory, highlighting the skills, courage, and endurance of the generation that experienced the Civil War and its profound impact on American history.
Highlights include: Bull Run/Manassas, Gettysburg to Appomattox, Sharpsburg/Antietam, Harper’s Ferry, and Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Spotsylvania.
