Cultural Diplomacy Conference – Philadelphia Art Museum, January
Students become global problem solvers in Jr. Model United Nations. Each student is assigned a country to represent and a topic of global importance that they are charged with solving in collaboration with fellow delegates at the Final Conference.
Students kick off Model UN with a museum visit and diplomacy keynote

gLOBAL sMARTS Mentoring Program
Students from under-resourced schools in Philadelphia can receive coaching on essential Model UN skills through our grant-funded Global Smarts Mentoring Program. Through weekly classroom visits from January to May, Mentors coach students on public speaking, global competencies, research skills and debate.
For college and university students who want to connect Philadelphia students to the world, Global Smarts can count as a spring semester internship. Applications to become a Mentor open each September.Â
GLOBAL SMARTS PROGRAM RUN DATES
The program runs annually from January to May, requiring mentors to commit up to ten hours weekly, both in and out of the classroom, under the guidance of World Affairs staff. Successful mentors can earn course credit for their impactful participation.
At weekly tutoring sessions, mentors work closely with students to fulfill key Jr. Model United Nations curriculum goals, including:
-Researching a country’s history, culture, government, economy, etc
– Thinking critically and creatively about an issue of global significance (e.g., water scarcity)
– Creating a well-constructed opening speech
– Learning how to draft a policy resolution
