Your remarkable 15-day small group journey through antiquity begins in Cairo and its environs with the Egyptian Museum and Memphis’s open-air museum.  Continue on to the astounding Pyramids of Giza with their Great Sphinx.  Embark on a fascinating three-night Lake Nasser cruise through ancient Nubia from Abu Simbel to Aswan, visiting important temples en route.  A classic four-night Nile cruise takes you from Aswan to Luxor, exploring splendid temples and statuary including the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens.  Return to Cairo for a U.S. Embassy briefing.  Discover fabled “rose-red” Petra, ancient Jerash, and the capital of Amman, with an optional 5-day/4-night Jordan post-tour extension. About the Lecturer

Ambassador Mark Johnson (ret.) completed 30 years as a career foreign service officer with the U.S. State Department serving as Ambassador to Senegal, Deputy Inspector General of the State Department, Deputy Chief of Mission in Kuwait, and as Deputy Chief of Mission in Cairo, Egypt. He was the first American diplomat to return to the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait City after it was liberated during the Desert Storm military campaign. He also was involved with the Middle East peace process in Cairo and helped negotiate the release of the American diplomats during the Iranian hostage crisis from 1979-81. He has led several World Affairs Council trips.
