Join us for a winter escape voyage to the blissful islands and motus of French Polynesia. Sail for seven nights aboard the Five-Star, 74-stateroom Wind Spirit and enjoy unmatched small-ship sailing amidst the emerald green peaks, chalk-white atolls and beryl-blue lagoons of the Society Islands. Explore the South Pacific’s unique history, culture and topography on Tahiti, Mo’orea, Bora Bora, Taha’a, Ra’iatea and Huahine. Daily excursions include visits to the sacred Arahurahu Marae and the Spring Garden of Vaipahi, the Atitia Outreach Center on Mo’orea to learn more about French Polynesia’s unique ecosystem, a vanilla plantation and a black pearl farm on Taha’a and enjoy a barbecue lunch on a private motu. On Bora Bora attend a demonstration of dyeing the traditional French Polynesian pareo and tasting of local fruits. Several opportunities for snorkeling and other cultural enrichments. About the lecturer
Dr. Carla Thorson, Vice President of Public Programs, World Affairs Council of Northern California, earned her MA and PhD in Political Science at the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to joining the Council, she was on the faculty at UCLA and was Outreach Coordinator for the UCLA International Institute’s Center for European and Eurasian Studies. While studying for her degrees, she also worked as a consultant at the RAND Corporation and as an analyst at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Inc. Dr. Thorson has led several Council tours and lectured on a Baltics cruise, Antarctica cruise, Iceland cruise, and most recently our 2018 trip to South Africa.
