GLI Class of 2018
Bodine Technology Fundraiser

The Council's Global Leadership Institute Class of 2018, a cohort of well-rounded, internationally-competitive professionals from the Council's Corporate Membership, is organizing their seventh-annual service project for Bodine High School for International Affairs

Founded in 1981 as a partnership between the Philadelphia School District and the World Affairs Council of Philadephia, William W. Bodine High School for International Affairs is a magnet school in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia featuring humanities and foreign-language centered college preparatory programs and offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Like many other schools in the Philadelphia public school system, Bodine High School deals with constant budget constraints. Currently, the school is in need of nearly $30 million worth of building repairs, many of which go unaddressed as the school must prioritize immediate operational costs. As a result of its scarce budget, Bodine is often unable to provide its students many seemingly fundamental educational tools and resources. Despite such obstacles, Bodine's mark of excellence is its graduation and college matriculation rates, which currently stands at 98%. Members of the Class of 2018 received a wide variety of local and out-of-state university acceptances, boasting $3.3 million in scholarships, including six full rides to Arcadia University, Albright College, Bryn Mawr College, Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania.

Understanding that school funding is constantly stretched thin, members of the Global Leadership Institute class are gathering donations with a goal of collecting, at a minimum, $7,500 to be used to purchase Dell Chromebook laptops. This investment in technology will provide Bodine's students with access to modern technology tools they can use to stay organized, conduct research, apply for college programs, and communicate with other students and educators, allowing them to get the most out of their educational experience.

Any donation towards our goal is one step closer to reducing the needs of Bodine.
We thank you in advance for any and all contributions!
