Global Leadership Institute Class of 2019 Collective Design Service Project

Founded in 1981 as a partnership between the School District of Philadelphia and the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, William W. Bodine High School for International Affairs is a magnet school in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia featuring a humanities and foreign-language centered college preparatory program and offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Like many other schools in the Philadelphia public school system, Bodine High School deals with constant budget constraints. Currently, the school is in need of nearly $30 million worth of building repairs, many of which go unaddressed as the school must prioritize immediate operational costs. As a result of its scarce budget, Bodine is often unable to provide its students with many seemingly fundamental educational tools and resources. Despite such obstacles, Bodine’s dedicated teachers help assure the school continues to achieve its impressive 97% graduation rate. A similar percentage of students matriculate at technical/vocational certificate programs as well as two- and four-year colleges and universities such as Drexel University, La Salle University, Haverford College, and Hampton University.

Understanding that school funding is constantly stretched thin, members of the World Affairs Council’s 2019 Global Leadership Institute class, a cohort of well-rounded, internationally-competitive professionals from the Council’s Corporate Membership, are gathering donations to fulfill specific project requests from students and faculty.

Projects will include funding for curriculum materials for subjects like financial literacy, poetry, and updated health education, physical education fitness equipment, and new glass display cases for the Art department. Fulfilling these requests helps ensure that Bodine's students can achieve their maximum potential despite financial constraints.

Any and all donations are genuinely appreciated and will directly impact Bodine's students for years to come! Thank you for your generous support!
