Global Leadership Institute for Professionals

Developing the next generation of well-rounded, internationally-minded nonprofit leaders

About the Global Leadership Institute

The Global Leadership Institute for Professionals (GLI) is a value-added initiative for active corporate members of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. Directors and corporate members nominate select “rising stars” among the young professionals within their companies (or client companies) to participate in a year-long development program that engages successor leadership in a substantive series of events that focus on concentrated networking opportunities, community service, and nonprofit leadership development. The program year culminates in a collectively designed service project in conjunction with the Council’s partner school, the Bodine High School for International Affairs.

GLI is an effective way for employers to help develop their participants into knowledgeable, internationally competitive, service-minded professionals, poised for a future in nonprofit board leadership and equipped to positively contribute to their respective company’s corporate social responsibility performance.

Each participant will also receive a complimentary $100 Dual level one-year membership with the World Affairs Council, which includes the standard benefits of that level.

Candidate Profile

  • Emerging leaders who have demonstrated the aptitude, talent, and desire to rise in their corporate communities and to give back to their local and global communities
  • Personally recommended by top executives, as eager learners who would like to leverage their interest in world affairs to achieve a better understanding of commercial, cultural, and political dynamics in the competitive global marketplace
  • Candidates typically consist of mid-level employees, ranging in age from 25 to 40 years old.

GLI core programs and Council speaker events provide:

Leadership and Professional Development: The Council’s capacity to convene, connect, and provide rich and engaged leadership development offers a powerful opportunity. The organization will draw on its Board of Directors and a community of experts across a variety of topics.

Social Responsibility: Engage with the Council’s most important constituency: the diverse group of 2,900 middle and high school students who participate in our Global Leadership Programs for students. These year-long programs build the critical skills necessary for success in the 21st century global economy, educate youth about U.S. policy and global leadership, and instill the values of responsible citizenship. GLI class members will work together to plan, execute, and complete a service project to directly benefit the Council’s partner school, the Bodine High School for International Affairs.

Access and Immersion with Expert and/or Iconic Speakers: Includes briefings, receptions, or seminars organized in conjunction with the World Affairs Council’s widely acclaimed speaker programs. This element offers an unparalleled opportunity to learn about a global issue from a renowned expert or hear directly from a thought leader while providing excellent networking with peers and regional players.
