2021 Global Leadership Institute Service Project

Support our project with the William W. Bodine High School for International Affairs!

The William W. Bodine High School for International Affairs is a special admission public magnet school located in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. Bodine fosters disciplined, ethical thinking and the capacity to entertain multiple worldviews. The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia’s partnership with Bodine has helped advance the mission to prepare students for a lifetime of achievement and participation in their local, national, and global communities.

Based on enrollment data Bodine’s student body demographics are very diverse. While some students and their families may only have roots in the U.S., many others could originate from countries located anywhere in the world. With that diversity in mind, the student body practices the motto "Harmony in diversity."

To support that idea of harmony, Bodine used to have flags from around the world mounted and hung from each classroom. The goal of the Global Leadership Institute Class of 2021 and our service project this year is to restore these flags so the school can demonstrate its international affairs focus. Representation in the classroom matters, regardless of a student’s country of origin. Cultural symbols such as a country’s flag can connect cultures, set high expectations, and reduce implicit bias.

Your donation could help international students who often feel isolated, underrepresented or mistreated, see themselves represented. This supports more positive academic, social, and emotional outcomes for all students.
