About the Event

One harrowing year into the pandemic, the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia hosted Adrian Wooldridge, political editor at The Economist, and author of The Wake-Up Call: Why the Pandemic Has Exposed the Weakness of the West, and How to Fix It. Wooldridge explored the challenges that Western nations have faced when confronting the pandemic, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Do we risk losing a competitive edge in the world? Are we doomed to repeat history when, inevitably, we face future pandemics? And how might we better prepare ourselves? During this discussion, we took a look back at what we’ve learned and how we can better prepare for future crises.
