About the speaker
María del Pilar Cruz Silva, Consul General of Colombia for Pennsylvania and New Jersey
Minister Plenipotentiary within Colombia’s Diplomatic and Consular Career Service since 2003, Consul María del Pilar has developed her professional career in the areas of diplomacy, regional affairs, and consular services.
She is an economist with studies in finance and stock market risk from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. She holds a Master’s degree in Politics and Government from FLACSO Chile and is currently completing a Master’s degree in International Relations with a concentration in Security and Human Rights at FLACSO Ecuador. She is also certified as an Ontological Coach and has participated in leadership and community-oriented initiatives focused on women and migrant populations.
Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, she has served in different roles related to administrative affairs, political and regional issues, and consular assistance. Her experience includes assignments at the Embassy of Colombia in Chile, where she also represented Colombia before the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC/CEPAL), as well as service as Consul General of Colombia in Lima, Peru. She has also worked in areas related to human talent management within the Ministry.
Her professional experience has focused particularly on consular affairs, including assistance and protection for Colombian nationals abroad, support for vulnerable populations, and work related to migrant communities.
