| Inside North Korea |
 |
We have learned that the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has decided to allow a limited number of Americans into the country later this year. The DPRK is a hospitable and fascinating destination for tourists, completely unique in the world. The DPRK government welcomes foreign visitors on a regular basis, and maintains a tourism infrastructure to accommodate them. The group meets in Beijing, primarily to obtain our visas, then flies to North Korea's capital, Pyongyang. Here we will see huge, green parks, marble monuments, and wide, immaculate boulevards. We also visit Myohyang, whose buildings are lavish showcases for the DPRK; Kaesong, the ancient capital of Korea; and Nampo, a major sea port. The highlight will be the Arirang Mass Performance with some 100,000 participants. $3,152 plus airfare round trip from the U.S. to Beijing. Contact us for upgrade options.

| Libya and Tunisia with Jim Falk |
 |
The classical remains of Libya are among the finest and yet least well known in the world. Recently, Libya has allowed Americans to once again visit extraordinary archaeological sites including Roman ruins at Leptis Magna and Sabratha. We will also learn about the diplomatic changes in Libya as seen through its capital, Tripoli. From Libya, we enter Tunisia by road, allowing a unique perspective as to the transition and the differences between these two North African neighbors. Tunisia, relatively unknown to Americans, is a modern, Western looking Arab country, whose dynamism is seen in its progressive socio-economic policies, the important role of women in every aspect of society and in Tunisian's Mediterranean joie de vivre. At the same time, Tunisia carries the legend of Carthage and many expansive archaeology sites whose Phoenician origins, further developed by the Romans, leave a legacy of impressive archaeological remains that surpass what is found in much of the former Roman Empire. In the company of Jim Falk, president of the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth and former resident of Tunisia, we will meet Tunisians who make this country an anomaly in the Arab world; academics, members of the ancient Jewish community on the island of Jerba, and government representatives.

An examination of President Obama's national security strategy that shifts away from focusing on counterterrorism as the main tenet of U.S. foreign policy and puts greater emphasis on threats from nuclear weapons, cyberthreats, climate change and a reliance on fossil fuels. In pressing the Group of 8 nations to cede more power to the Group of 20, the President invests fast-emerging powers like China, India and Brazil with global responsibilities. During the week we will hear from supporters and detractors of this strategy and visit several embassies to hear their countries' perspectives. The week features special dinners and luncheon briefings at the National Press Club and Cosmos Club, meetings with journalists, think tank scholars, and Members of Congress.

World Leaders Symposium East Asia: Japan, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore Aboard the Silver Shadow
Partners Across the Pacific with former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Senator Chuck Hagel and others |

 |
Tokyo's eye-popping, neon-bright Ginza, one of the most luxurious shopping districts in the world, is a good metaphor for Asia today: big, bold, highly efficient, a hotbed of activity, and a sight to behold. While Japan shows no signs of relinquishing the reins of global influence, China's economy is on a steep trajectory, its twin mega-cities of Shanghai and Hong Kong flexing considerable muscle. At the same time, their natural and cultural treasures—such as the Shanghai Museum, the Moshe Synagogue in Shanghai's Jewish Quarter, Hong Kong's vibrant harbor and breathtaking Victoria Peak, the fortune tellers on Kowloon—are still much prized. Further south, Vietnam's storied capital, Ho Chi Minh City, bustles with burgeoning commerce and new construction, a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people. On this grand voyage aboard Silversea's luxurious 194-suite Silver Shadow, former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, Senator Chuck Hagel and a team of statesmen and regional experts will put your finger on the pulse of Asia.
From $19,990 plus airfare.
